They Are Wearing: Copenhagen Film Festival

The cold may have arrived in Denmark, but it’s no match for the country’s style. As always, Danes have found a way to take their classic winter concept of “hygge” — an ancient Scandinavian term for winter coziness — and turn it into something modern.

Case in point: the Copenhagen Film Festival, which took place last week. During the annual event, which recognizes and supports independent filmmakers, Danes elected to wear classic Scandinavian staples with a cozy twist. That translated to dark, slick pieces and plenty of fur coats, draped scarves and loose jeans.

In the edgy neighborhoods of Vesterbro and Nørrebro, locals popped in and out of the festival’s theaters to make time for brunching and vintage shopping. For those attending screenings in the region’s main shopping district, known as Strøget, the festival became an effortless part of their days; nearly everyone attending premiers did so amidst shopping, dining or working.
